• Fanatic Swing is a modification of Zeal. Zeal has a parameter of 100% Rollback, while Fanatic Swing is given 50% Rollback. This article is based on an assumption that 50% Rollback makes the next swing start 50% faster. (Any correction would be appreciated.)

Sorceress Zeal Speed

  • This table is the Sorceress Zeal speed quoted from The Amazon Basin Technical Discussion Forum.
  • EIAS is effective IAS the character has.
  • 1st Swing is the frame of the first swing.
  • End Swing is the frame of the last swing.
  • F-U (follow-up) Swing is the frame of each swing between the first and the last.
  • The End Swing is especially longer because it contains the animation to the neutral position (the ending animation).
  • For example, if a Sorceress has no IAS and swings 5 times with oskill Zeal, the whole attack sequence takes 10+12+12+12+19=65 frames.

Sorceress Fanatic Swing Speed

  • Assuming 50% Rollback makes the next swing start 50% faster, Fanatic Swing will have 50% less 1st Swing and F-U Swing. End Swing won't be affected because there comes no next swing until the whole sequence ends.
  • So the table of Fanatic Swing speed will be like this. (Each 1st Swing and F-U Swing is halved and rounded up.)

  • With 50% EIAS, the sequence takes 4+4+4+4+12=28 frames (So-called 4 frame Zeal), not bad breakpoint to aim. With 54% EIAS the sequence gets 1 frame shorter. With 67% EIAS, the sequence gets 2 more frames shorter.

Calculating the EIAS

  • Since no weapon speed calculator in the world supports Fanatic Swing, we have to calculate the EIAS for ourselves.
  • Well, now we know we need 67% EIAS for the fastest breakpoint. Then how much IAS do we need?
  • First, let's check the weapon speed (WSM) at the ES Database. For example, if you use a Long Sword, the WSM is [-10]. WSM is EIAS, but a negative value. So WSM [-10] is equal to 10% EIAS. You can subtract 10% from 67%. The rest EIAS we need is 57%.
  • Next, if you have Fanaticism and/or Annihilation (from eqipment or mercenary), let's check it's IAS bonus. The IAS bonus from skills is EIAS, too. If your aura grants 15% skill IAS, you can subtract 15% from 57%. The rest EIAS we need is 42%.
  • Ok, it's time to look up the table. It says 42% EIAS is equal to 65% IAS, so you need 65% IAS from equipments.

Comparison of Fanatic Swing with Zeal

  • Sorceress' Zeal speed with 0% IAS is 10/12/19 (1st/F-U/End). Zeal usually swings 5 times, which takes:
    10 + 12 + 12 + 12 + 19 = 65 frames (avg. 13 fpa)
  • Sorceress' Fanatic Swing speed with 0% IAS is 5/6/19 (1st/F-U/End).
    5 + 6 + 6 + 6 + 19 = 42 frames (avg. 8.4 fpa)
  • Paladin's Zeal speed with 0% IAS is 7/7/14 (1st/F-U/End).
    7 + 7 + 7 + 7 + 14 = 42 frames (avg. 8.4 fpa)
  • Sorceress' Fanatic Swing is approximately as fast as Paladin's Zeal. It can reach the fastest breakpoint with less IAS than Zeal, but it tends to be a bit slower than Zeal, especially when the attack ends before it swings 5 times (ie. all nearby enemies may die before you swing 5 times), because of the longer End frame.
