*HenryHandsmek - Paladin [#c4d33755]

#contents

**Character Intro and Overview [#sa7d48a8]
Henry Handsmek is a Martyr, a paladin who believes that sacrifices are to be made to stop the evil (bad pun intended). He uses Sacrifice as primary attack, backed up by defensive auras.

It's played rather straightforward when it comes to attacking, click and hold an enemy until it's dead, and quickly switch to a new one. Against large packs or especially dangerous enemies, a quick conversion with Hypno Blast first turn the monsters against each other. Against physical immunes he has Vengeance. But the funny part in playing isn't the attacks, it's the auras. I use no less than... hmm, I'll have to think here... no less than 7 different auras. In a single Nihlathak-run, I usually use 4-6. It's a great challenge for ones tactical mind, and ones coordination.

He's quite good at dealing damage versus bosses and small groups, and great at surviving, but there are far better builds against masses (since he hasn't got any AoE damage attack whatsoever).

It's this char that has been the base of my Martyr build guide (http://miyoshino.la.coocan.jp/eswiki/?the%20Martyr), check it out! :D
**Stats and Attributes [#y8f67523]

&ref(./csheet1.GIF);&ref(./csheet2.GIF);&ref(./csheet3.GIF);&ref(./csheet6.GIF);

Well, this is how he looks. The damage is decent, especially considering it's with Aura of Divinity active (with fanaticism it tops 248k max), but not extreme due to mediocre weapon.
My resists are quite nice though, as I've also got 12%/17%/12% absorb when my barb's Prot. from Cold is active. Protection from Fire and Lightning gives me 40% absorb versus that element, so it's useful against Electrocuters and those guys.
All stats here are fully buffed and with auras from merc active.
The attack rating makes me have over 90% hit chance against most enemies in Naraku and below, and my defense of 101k makes most enemies hit me 7% of the time or even more rarely. With Fanaticism active, I've got 42k AR. Not getting hit is also quite important, since it can trigger my hit recovery and I don't want that. Big time don't want that.

My life is quite low for a melee char, but if I use Vigor it pops up to 7772 max life. Speed is also important, and while I only have 30% FRW, I always have a level 6 Vigor active on equip, and when I actually use vigor (most of the time when I'm not in melee combat), it gives me an 85% boost, so I can run like hell if needed. It's needed quite often :P

I don't really care about GF, as I've got another char to take care of the goldfinding, but since I'm gonna run high-level areas with this guy, I really wanted some MF. Lucky for me, it's packed in Lady Eboshi's Greed, which I use anyway for Life Leech.

Oh yeah, and for those noticing 73% Life Stolen Per hit, yes, it is overkill, but since leech together with life replenish is used instead of actual life on this build, I wanted it rather high... 50% had been enough by far, but I got a little carried away and I don't have much to d-stone on my stuff anyway. Just resists, life, and life leech.

For stats, I've gone all strength. Not a single point anywhere else. More damage mean more life-leech, and less enemies. More damage is king.
**Skills [#a6b8bd19]
&ref(./ssheet1.GIF);&ref(./ssheet3.GIF);

As you can see, maxed Sacrifice, maxed Holy Shield, and maxed Prayer. Most other skills are one-pointers, except for Hypno Blast, which I have something like 9 hard points in (going for 12, for increased radius), and the Protection from Fire and Lightning skills, which I have 2 hard points in each, for +1 to maximum resistance each.

Sacrifice in itself gives +3025% ED and +1850% AR. When I meet physical immunes, I have to switch to Vengeance, which does 37k-167k with Protection from Lightning active. Hypno blast is used on groups and dangerous enemies such as holy freeze uniques with minions.
&ref(./hypno.GIF);

As can be seen on the stat page, Aura of Divinity, which is my primary aura, has only 1 point in it but still gives +23% experience gained. It really makes a difference. Fanaticism, which I have on a staffmod from the odd charm, gives some IAS which I don't need as I reach maximum for my weapon if my merc is in the vicinity, 465% ED, and 215% AR.
Prayer heals 540 life every two seconds, and the on equip Meditation and Cleansing auras I have each heal 538 life every two seconds. Protection from Fire and Lightning each gives 40% Absorb to it's element, and 129% elemental skill damage. Redemption has a 95% chance of working and gives 400 mana and 430 life after each leech.
Salvation is nearly only used when under Conviction aura, but it gives +126%/+114%/+126% resistance to the elements. I've got Holy Freeze on a staffmod too, but I almost never use it. It deals neglible damage, but slows all enemies with 58%.

**Equipment [#u96f7151]

I've tried to get as much +paladin skills as possible, since every +1 to paladin skills net me 40%ED, 15% AR, 10 life/second regeneration, 14% defense and much more... I've also tried to get a lot of life leech, high resists, and lately, for running Nihl's (which I can complete with 2.8k life, but risk getting one-hit ko'd at), some life. Damage is as always the key though.

***Weapon [#v4d88471]
&ref(./weap.GIF);
The most important piece of equipment, clearly. It's not the best, but it's quite decent, I'd even say it's good. I've Wa-forged it, will probably change to He when I get two of them (have only one now, and a spare Nu, but I don't wanna downgrade so rare runes :$). Stuck in it is a perfect obsidian and a Ka-forged jewel that gives +54% ED, +15 max damage, +15 strength and +15% AR. It's d-stoned, and I've spent about 10-12 maples on it. I'm quite unsure if I should continue mapling or try rerolling a better base weapon, I do have an ethereal Guardian that I got from blinn.

***Armor [#p7bbc6c9]
&ref(./armor.GIF);
Insight armor: Gives meditation aura, which apart from saving me from mana burn enemies also heals me 538 life every two seconds (that's my reason for choosing it). It's d-stoned for defense, since I can't get too much of that. I'll probably waste some maples to add resistance to it, to get rid of a Ho forging that I forgot about. More on that later.

&ref(./helm.GIF);
Arthur's Crown helmet: Gives cleansing aura, same as for insight, 538 life every two seconds. It also has 46% deadly strike natively, which is an increase in total damage by 46% on an average. It's Ho-forged, which I didn't know until ten seconds ago >< not so god, I'd rather d-stone my boots for resistance or something... I'll have to wait a few levels, or spend a few maples to get the resistance I need so I can skill forge it. The socket is filled with a skill forged Nexus Jewel, and it's Ruby Melded for deadly strike, faster hit recovery, and life. Ruby melding is great!

&ref(./gloves.GIF);&ref(./boots.GIF);
Herculean Grip gloves: They are simply wonderful. Native crushing blow, deadly strike, IAS, and a nice chance of casting a static field! It's forged with the rune that gives Ignore Target Defense, whatever that is, because that's a great ability to have, especially if you're gonna go toe-to-toe with many special monsters that aren't uniques, like the Wyverns and electrocuters. The socket-filler is a less than perfect (actually quite worthless) Lady Eboshi's Greed for life-leech and MF. The jewel is skill forged. I'll probably change it for a He rune, or another Nexus star.
I've Obsidian-melded the gloves, for lack of better thing to do, although I did consider diamond-melding it. The obsidian melds, however, granted more deadly strike, and I have a plan: At level 96, both gloves and Arthur's Crown can take one more melding, so I'll have excactly 100% DS. I don't know what to do if I reach level 100 though.

HenryHandsmek's Suffocation of Indifference boots: Look, I ALSO have an item named after me! Oh well, anya's fault. I took these in lack of anything better to take. They're not bad, featuring 49% slow target (took a few rerolls) and lots of max damage, but nothing special. It's d-stoned with life and both it and the Nexus Jewel are skill forged.

&ref(./belt.GIF);
Herme's Gift belt: Of course for the on-equip Vigor. Since I've maxed Prayer, a level 6 vigor gives me, my merc, and any party members no less than +55% max life. More than decent in my opinion, it's like a weak Battle Orders. It's also got +Defensive Auras, and I may be the only Paladin ever to say this, but that is great. Faster Run/Walk and the other mods are just icing on the cake. I it is a Lady Eboshi's, both are skill forged, and the belt is d-stoned for %life. All in all it gives me 75% max life.

***Jewelry [#oda839e5]
&ref(./amul.GIF);
Bone Eye amulet: I like this one. It came with +3 combat skills, oskill Iron Skin, cold resist, gold find, and life leech. It's Aura Forged (my synergies give +240% defense to defiance) and d-stoned for life leech, something I regret just a little bit. Anyway, done is done, and if I ever get rich, I'm gonna make this the über-amulet of all time. It gives over 22k defense, and that's much for an amulet. It's socket is a skill forged Lady Eboshi's.

&ref(./rings.GIF);
Rock of Aadeyen ring: A good paladin ring, quite simply. Comes with +8 holy shield, which is really nice, and has also got resists and +% max life. D-stoned for %max life, and both it and the Lady Eboshi's are skill forged.

Elemental Jewel ring: For the resists/max resists. It's d-stoned for %max life, with an accidental +5% FRW, and a skillforged Nexus Jewel is stuck in it.

&ref(./vetcharm.GIF);
Daylight odd charm: For the absorbs, since I don't have any other Fire/Lightning absorb unless I activate the auras. I'm probably gonna change this, maybe inserting lots of max damage jewels if I can get them, or when I switch to other stuff in equips, sticking my Lady Eboshi's in here.
And YES, charms are jewelry. Jewelry is for charming people, right?
**Mercenary [#jc697204]
I've just switched from a Cold Iron Wolf to a Cold Rogue, for Amplify Damage triggering, but she died all the time and did no damage whatsoever, so I switched again to a Defensive Barbarian. This guy helps me a lot, bot offensively and defensively, and doesn't die as often. Since I just got him, he has very, very bad gear, most of it not d-stoned at all. I really need to get him a new weapon.

&ref(./msheet.GIF);

***Merc equipment [#x90494e5]
&ref(./mweap.GIF);

Mitsurugi's Aide sword: I had two swords that dealt over 600 max damage, and this one featured Annihilation. It wasn't a hard choice. It's been d-stoned for damage twice, because that was all I could afford. I have 4 ancient decipherers currently.

&ref(./marmor.GIF);
Fox armor: For the Protection from Cold aura. Gives cold absorb, and more importantly, gives Cannot Be Frozen to my whole party. It's simply a good runeword.

&ref(./mhelmet.GIF);
Hijikata's Heartblood: A great merc helmet. It's got oskill melee mastery and critical strike, as well as damage reduction and life leech. This is the only part I've really d-stoned, but it has such low level-req that I was compelled to :$. Well, 60% max life and +176 life is nothing to scoff at! The jewel is a magic one with +12 max damage, simply because it had no level req above the helmets. It's forged with +12% max life.
The helm itself is merc converted and All Skill forged.

&ref(./mboots.GIF);&ref(./mgloves.GIF);
Mighty gloves: Ctc Amplify Damage, need I say more?

Haste of Athulua boots: They're overall a pair of good shoes simply. They're all skill forged and have a %max life forged Schescheswhatseverhername's spark in them for CTC Static Field.
ITD is really useful for the merc too.

&ref(./mbelt.GIF);
Girdle of Giant Strength: A lot of strength it is, and it also has damage reduction. All skill forged and with another Scesch's spark, it too %max life forged.

&ref(./mamul.GIF);
Eye of Etlich amulet: Comes with a socket, which is great, and +2 all skills, which is great, and life leech, and cold damage... It's just a great amulet. It's aura forged with annihilation, primarily for attack speed.

&ref(./mrings.GIF);
Elemental Jewel: For resists. All skill forged.

Entropy Grip : A REALLY nice ring, featuring +offensive auras and ctc amp. Too bad I don't use offensive auras. Well, CtC Amp is always nice, so my merc got it. It's all skill forged, %max life d-stoned, and has a %max life forged Scesch's spark in it.
